Remember Who Said This?

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”

  1. While not everyone may not have the same reaction to this as I might, but this shouldn’t be viewed as a slam against Obama. Rather, it should be viewed as an indictment against all politicians. They’ll say whatever they have to in order to get in, but once they do get in, they’re going to do whatever they want. Republican, Democrat, liberal, or conservative, it doesn’t matter.

    • Yes, exactly, and the quote from 2011 on Good Morning America illustrates your point very well. I don’t like bashing anyone but we should speak the truth. However there are risks to speaking the truth. People don’t like to hear the truth when they are hiding in darkness.

It’s also true that there are some who get involved in politics because they see corruption and want to change things. Unfortunately they are wet behind the ears and naive and that’s where Obama was back in 2006. They mean well and are well intentioned but they haven’t been there, done it yet. Hahaha, that was me in the 90’s.

Yes, sadly it’s the name of the game for politicians to say things itchy ears want to hear. And while most people know it they continue to accept it just like the jib jab message says (It’s Time for Some Campaigning). Politicians know human nature very well. If they sound sincere and make promises people want to hear that they know and everyone else knows they can’t keep, they’ll likely get the votes.

      • I don’t think Obama’s intentions have really changed since 2006. His voting record throughout his career speaks for itself. I’m not sure that you can survive to that high of a level in politics either with altruistic intentions.
