A lot of people like to dismiss Bitcoin by saying something like, “Bitcoin is nice and all, but the government is just going to shut it down.” The whole purpose of Bitcoin is strike at the root of government’s power, but just assuming that the government not only can but also would want to simply shut it down ignores a lot of the interesting game theory that’s going on in the global competition for power.
