Episode 79 – The left/right horseshoe of guns and terrorism

It may be a cliché, but it doesn’t make it untrue.  Conservatives and leftists are like two sides of the same coin.  Sometimes it’s as obvious as their absolute flip flopping on the issue of executive orders once Donald Trump became President.  Under the Obama years, the leftists defended his liberal use of them while conservatives decried it as an overreach of executive power.  As soon as Trump starting using his powers to create executive orders in the same way, it was the conservatives defending him and the leftists crying foul.

But sometimes they don’t contradict themselves on the same issues.  Sometimes both sides believe the exact same thing but apply it to different things.  On the heels of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, the left/right horseshoe becomes clear when it comes to gun control and terrorism.  Many conservatives call for strict restrictions on immigration following any sort of terrorist attack committed by a Muslim (or more specifically—actually much less specifically—an Arab or anyone else that has brown skin).  Those on the left correctly say that we should blame the individual and look at his motivations instead of punishing an entire group of people.

And as expected, following any shooting, with the most recent one falling right in line with any others from the past, most conservatives correctly put the blame on the shooter while the leftists call for blanket restrictions on guns.  In their states of fiery passion, neither side realizes how much they contradict themselves when they jump from issue to issue.
